Spain and Mexico bar closures ordered by local authorities

In the municipality of Candelaria, local officials ordered the closure of a bar on Las Arenitas after repeated neighbour complaints about noise, alcohol consumption in the street, and unapproved music. The establishment was found operating without the required licence for a venue serving music or as a pub, and failure to provide documentation for a terrace and sound‑proofing led the council to enforce a shutdown, with police executing the order on July 10.

Meanwhile, municipal regulators in Mineral de la Reforma, Mexico, have shut down nine bars during 2024 for internal disputes, operating without proper authorisation, and violations of operating hours or documentation requirements. Five of the venues remain closed, and four had their licences cancelled. Inspections continue on about 19 additional establishments that are operating without formal permits.

Both actions illustrate local authorities' efforts to enforce licensing and public‑order regulations on drinking establishments.
