Spain and Mexico launch summer library programs for children

The municipality of Onda in Spain’s Aragon region is running a summer campaign called “Agost a la Biblio” that offers workshops, storytelling, free‑entry cinema screenings and water‑based activities for children throughout August. Cultural councillor Daniel Álvaro said, “We are clear that culture and learning do not go on vacation,” emphasizing the goal of keeping the library active during school holidays.

In Mexico, the state of Coahuila has mobilised around 140 public libraries for a similar summer reading initiative. Library manager José Domingo Ortiz reported that the Manuel Múzquiz Blanco library welcomed 67 minors in its first session, offering games, crafts, and literary activities such as “Mel lees lo mismo que un libro” and “Preguntas al estante.” Staff received prior training to make the sessions engaging and to position the libraries as year‑round cultural centers.
