Ane Zubeldia wins Spain's National Young Poetry Prize
Ane Zubeldia Magriñá, the literary pseudonym of Ane García López, has been awarded the 2026 ‘Miguel Hernández’ National Young Poetry Prize by the Spanish Ministry of Culture. The award, which includes a €30,000 endowment, recognizes her work ‘kontra’, published in Basque by Susa Literatura.
The jury praised the collection for its “unusual plastic intensity” and its ability to explore the versatility and stillness of the body through experimental language. They noted her mature use of syncopated rhythms, repetitions, and onomatopoeia to address contemporary complexities and grief. The work utilizes water imagery as a metaphor for the abandonment of the conscious self and serves as a poetic engine of resistance.
Zubeldia, a translator and co-founder of the Mejillón Tigre collective, has also worked in music with the group Lurra.
