Spain announces housing subsidies up to 22,000 euros for accessibility
The Spanish government has published Royal Decree 326/2026 in the Official State Gazette (BOE), detailing subsidies under the State Housing Plan 2026-2030 to improve home accessibility. The program, promoted by the Ministry of Housing, aims to eliminate architectural barriers and facilitate mobility for elderly individuals and people with disabilities.
Subsidies cover between 65% and 80% of project costs, depending on the resident's circumstances. Funding amounts vary based on the type of work and the needs of the occupants:
• Up to 13,000 euros for general accessibility improvements. • Up to 18,000 euros if a resident is over 65 or has a disability of 33% or higher. • Up to 20,500 euros for residents with a recognized disability of 65% or higher. • Up to 22,000 euros for projects ensuring universal accessibility.
Eligible works include installing ramps, replacing bathtubs with adapted showers, or installing elevators in residential communities. The aid is specifically targeted at owners with disabilities, those in situations of dependency, or those with low incomes.
