Spain approves 274 million euros for green hydrogen projects

Spain’s Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO) has approved 274.2 million euros in subsidies to boost green hydrogen production. The funding is distributed among four projects located in Castilla-La Mancha, Galicia, and Aragon, aiming to accelerate industrial decarbonization by replacing fossil fuels with clean energy.

The total electrolysis capacity supported by these funds reaches 102.27 megawatts. Repsol is the primary beneficiary, receiving approximately 183.18 million euros for two projects: the Atlas project in Arteixo (50 MW) and the Puertollano Hydrogen Network (12.27 MW).

Additional funding will support the Quixotgen project by Doña Urraca Energy in Villarrobledo (50.21 million euros for 30 MW) and the ZaragozaH2V project by AccionaPlug in Zaragoza (40.89 million euros for 10 MW). These investments are part of the ‘Auctions as a Service’ (AaaS) mechanism to strengthen national energy autonomy and meet the objectives of the Integrated National Energy and Climate Plan (PNIEC).
