Spain approves major recycling plants in Antequera and Almansa

Althenia, a subsidiary of Grupo Sando, will build Andalusia's first textile‑waste recycling plant in Antequera. The 4,000‑sq‑m facility will cost €5 million, create 25 jobs and be capable of processing about 3.3 million kg of post‑consumer textile waste each year, with non‑recyclable material used as industrial fuel. The plant is slated to start operations in early 2027. Jorge Gámiz, Grupo Sando’s director of Conservation, Maintenance and Energy, said, “this project shows the interest and commitment of Grupo Sando to sustainability.”

Acteco will install a new plastic‑waste recycling plant in Almansa, Albacete. The project, situated on a 19,000‑sq‑m site, involves a €25 million investment and is expected to create 48 direct jobs. It will employ both mechanical and chemical recycling processes for plastics. The venture is awaiting final approval, with regional officials highlighting its alignment with environmental and economic goals. Pedro Antonio Ruiz Santos, regional delegate, remarked, “talking about recycling is talking about environment, energy and the future.”
