Guardia Civil arrests 10 traffickers after shootout in Huelva

A coordinated operation by the Guardia Civil and the Customs Surveillance Service has resulted in the arrest of ten members of a criminal drug trafficking organization. The operation follows a violent confrontation in the Gulf of Cádiz between the early hours of August 17 and August 18, during which suspects in a narco-boat opened fire on a Guardia Civil patrol vessel.

During the high-speed pursuit, the suspects performed dangerous maneuvers and threw portions of their cargo into the sea to obstruct official vessels. The patrol boat sustained damage during the chase, allowing the suspects to temporarily escape. However, a subsequent coordinated assault on August 20 led to the interception of two narco-boats and the seizure of 5,926 kilograms of hashish.

One suspect was wounded by gunfire during the exchange and was subsequently abandoned by his accomplices on the coast of Cádiz. He was later located and hospitalized in Puerto Real. Authorities are investigating the group for various charges, including drug trafficking, attempted homicide, and piracy.
