Spain arrests 17‑year‑old leader of extremist 764 network
The Guardia Civil, the Basque police (Ertzaintza) and the Catalan police (Mossos d'Esquadra) carried out a joint operation in the province of Gipuzkoa that led to the arrest of a 17‑year‑old Spanish national. The youth is identified as the main figure of the 764 extremist network in Spain. Between January and April 2026 the network sent a series of threatening messages to schools, town halls, libraries and other public and private institutions, announcing planned shootings and armed attacks; none of the threats were carried out, but they prompted extensive security protocols.
During searches of two apartments in Gipuzkoa police seized electronic devices, storage media and documents related to the group. The suspect was presented before a court and placed in a specialized juvenile detention centre in Donostia‑San Sebastián. The 764 network originated in the United States, taking its name from the first three digits of the Stephenville, Texas ZIP code, and is linked to sextortion, distribution of child sexual‑abuse material, incitement of self‑harm, extreme violence content and animal cruelty.
