Spain beer consumption among residents falls since 2022
According to the 2025 Food Consumption Report from Spain's Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, beer consumption among residents outside the home has declined by 16.1% since 2022. In 2025, per capita consumption fell to 18.4 liters, down from 19.9 liters in 2024.
This decline is part of a broader downward trend in the consumption of cold beverages outside the home, which has decreased by 9.4% between 2022 and 2025. Other categories also saw reductions, including spirits (down 16.9%), soft drinks (down 4.2%), and bottled water (down 2.7%). Despite the drop, beer remains the most consumed cold beverage in this setting, holding a 36.1% market share, followed by bottled water at 33.3%.
Jacobo Olalla, Director General of Cerveceros de España, noted that the Ministry's data specifically reflects consumption by residents. He highlighted that the total beer market in Spain actually grew by 2.7% in 2025 compared to 2022 levels, suggesting that exports and tourism consumption are helping to stabilize the sector.
