Spain begins European Blind Football Championship in Strasbourg

The Spanish national blind football team begins its campaign in the XIV European Blind Football Championship in Strasbourg, France. The tournament, held from August 17 to 24, carries significant stakes as the three top-finishing teams will secure qualification for the 2027 World Cup in São Paulo, Brazil. Success in the 2027 World Cup is a primary pathway for teams to qualify for the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games.

Spain is placed in Group B and is scheduled to debut against Turkey, followed by matches against Italy and Romania. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semifinals. Group A consists of Greece, Germany, France, and England.

National coach Julián Martín described the squad as a “perfect union between young and veteran” players. The roster includes field players Robert Alexander Echeverría, Javier Serrato, Joel Sánchez, Unait Sánchez, Adolfo Acosta, Álvaro Gómez-Cambronero, Andrés Herrero, and Miguel Ángel Sánchez, with Daniel Barrenechea and Alberto García serving as goalkeepers.
