Spain begins multi‑million‑euro renovations of Marina bridge and A Coruña Oceanographic Centre

In August 2024, municipal authorities in Barcelona started a comprehensive rehabilitation of the Marina bridge, a viaduct built in 1928 to carry railway tracks from the North Station. The €6 million project will reinforce the structure, replace the reinforced‑concrete deck, improve drainage and waterproofing, and restore ornamental elements such as cornices and balustrades. Work is phased to minimise disruption and is scheduled to finish in late 2027.

At the same time, the Spanish State and the CSIC launched a €5.6 million overhaul of the Centro Oceanográfico de A Coruña. The brutalist building, designed by architect Vicente Roig in the 1970s, has suffered severe humidity, ventilation and safety issues. The contract awarded to Ogmios Proyecto will address structural pathologies, upgrade accessibility, fire safety and climate control, and redesign interior spaces. Completion is also expected around mid‑2027.
