Spain boosts video game industry with new tools and funding
The Spanish video game sector is receiving both technological support and government funding to bolster its international presence. DeVuego, a database for Spanish video games, has released a new browser extension designed to help consumers identify domestic titles. The extension, available for Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox, automatically notifies users when they visit product pages on platforms such as Steam, Xbox.com, PlayStation Store, or Nintendo eShop, indicating if the game was developed by a Spanish studio.
Simultaneously, the Spanish Ministry of Culture has allocated one million euros to promote the internationalization of the national video game industry. This initiative aims to help Spanish studios, particularly small and medium-sized independent developers, showcase their projects abroad, establish professional contacts, and secure new opportunities for financing and distribution. This move seeks to consolidate the sector as a competitive cultural and economic force in global markets.
