Spain's Rodri Calls World Cup Final Against Argentina a 'Match of Our Lives

Spain captain Rodrigo Hernández, known as Rodri, told the press ahead of the World Cup final that the game against Argentina is a “match of our lives”. He urged his teammates to show bravery and a winning mentality, adding that while Lionel Messi is “the greatest player of all time”, Argentina is “much more than Messi”. Rodri praised young forward Lamine Yamal for his self‑less play and said he feels in the best shape of his career after a careful recovery from a serious injury at Manchester City.

He highlighted Spain’s steady rise, noting the squad’s Nations League win in 2023 and European Championship triumph in 2024, and emphasized the team’s versatility and defensive solidity throughout the tournament. On the Argentine side, goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez disclosed that he has been playing the final with a broken finger, a condition that forced him to forgo an operation recommended by specialists.

Both sides are preparing for what Rodri expects to be a more physical and tightly contested final than the semi‑final against France.
