Spain commits 22.6 billion euros to defense contracts through 2035

The Spanish government has committed over 22.6 billion euros in public spending for defense contracts between 2026 and 2035. These funds are allocated through Special Modernization Programs (PEM) as part of the Industrial and Technological Security and Defense Plan.

Major recipients of these contracts include Airbus, which is slated to receive 8.1 billion euros, followed by a joint venture between Indra and Escribano with 7.62 billion euros, and Navantia with 5.8 billion euros. Key projects include the development of a tracked support vehicle exceeding 4.5 billion euros, the modernization of F-100 frigates for 3.2 billion euros, and a wheeled support vehicle project valued at 2.685 billion euros.

This investment follows Spain reaching its goal of investing 2% of its GDP in defense in 2025. The spending commitments are aligned with NATO obligations and are expected to serve as a significant driver for industrial employment in Spain over the next decade.
