Spain condemns Iranian missile attacks on Jordan

The Spanish government has condemned missile attacks launched by Iran against Jordanian territory, expressing “full solidarity” with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. In a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Spain emphasized its unwavering support for Jordan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and security.

Spain warned that these attacks increase the risk of regional escalation and constitute a “flagrant violation” of the United Nations Charter and international law. The Ministry stressed that lasting peace and stability can only be achieved through negotiation and diplomacy.

The Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed the missiles targeted a U.S. military hangar at the Al Azraq base in Jordan and two U.S. destroyers. These actions were described as a response to U.S. aggression against Iranian tankers and vessels. Jordanian armed forces confirmed the missile strikes but reported that 18 out of 20 ballistic missiles were successfully intercepted and destroyed.

The escalation follows increased maritime tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, where recent exchanges between Iran and the United States have impacted oil shipping and prices. This follows reports of the U.S. destroying several Iranian tankers in the Gulf of Oman.
