Spain conducts forest fire drills and prevention workshops

Emergency response and prevention efforts regarding forest fires are being prioritized in Spain through military exercises and community outreach.

On September 8, the Military Emergencies Unit (UME) will conduct instruction exercises in the Sierra Espuña regional park. The operation, which includes a simulated large-scale forest fire, will be based at the Las Alquerías Nature Classroom. The drill aims to refine operational capabilities for managing simultaneous fires and improve coordination with the Natural Environment Defense Service.

In the Valencian Community, the Generalitat Valenciana is organizing a self-protection session in Marines on September 8. This public meeting is designed to provide residents with practical information on preventing risks and acting during emergencies, specifically focusing on forest fires in urban-forest interfaces. The session will also cover guidance for floods, extreme heat, and earthquakes.
