Spain confronts femicide surge with protests and a 25‑year prosecution case

Residents of San Fernando de Henares, a town near Madrid, assembled on the streets to condemn a recent gender‑based murder in Sevilla. The gathering included a minute of silence for the victim and reiterated slogans such as “Ni una menos,” demanding stronger preventive and protective policies against violence toward women.

In a separate legal proceeding in Castilla‑La Mancha, prosecutors in Ciudad Real have sought a 25‑year prison sentence for Miguel Molina, who is accused of killing his wife, 54‑year‑old Cándida Molina, in Aldea del Rey on 23 February 2024. Investigators say the victim suffered multiple blows, contradicting the defendant’s claim that she fell and died from an accidental injury. The case has been transferred for a jury trial, expected to take place in early 2027.
