Spain debates space strategy and European Space Force
Spanish defense organizations CESEDEN and IEEE have presented a strategic analysis titled ‘Geopolitics of Space’ in Barcelona. The report emphasizes the necessity for the European Union to establish a European Space Force to address existential challenges facing the West.
The analysis identifies outer space as the ‘fifth operational domain,’ highlighting risks such as espionage, satellite attacks, and the need for troop support. The presentation, held in collaboration with Hispasat, underscores the dual civil and military importance of satellite technology and the growing role of the Catalan industry in this sector.
Experts suggest that the current transition in the globalized international system puts the future of both the EU and Spain at stake, necessitating a robust strategic response in the space domain.
