United States sets FIFA World Cup record with 17-0 win over Samoa

The United States U-17 women’s national team established a new FIFA World Cup record by defeating Samoa 17-0 during their Group E opener at the tournament in Morocco. This victory marks the largest margin of victory in the history of any FIFA World Cup, surpassing the previous record of 16-0 set by the Morocco men’s U-17 team in 2025.

Forward Maddie DiMaria led the historic performance by scoring six goals, becoming the first player in the history of the U-17 Women’s World Cup to achieve such a feat in a single match. Other contributors included Loradana Paletta and Carolina Reyna, who each scored twice, while seven other players found the net to complete the ten-goal tally.

The U.S. squad dominated the match from the start, recording 58 shots and leading 9-0 by halftime. The victory places the United States at the top of Group E as they continue their pursuit of a title they have yet to win in this specific age category.
