Spanish defender Pau Cubarsi named FIFA World Cup 2026 Best Young Player

Pau Cubarsi, the 19‑year‑old Spanish defender, was awarded the FIFA World Cup 2026 Best Young Player trophy after Spain's 1‑0 victory over Argentina in the final. The award ceremony took place at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, United States, and was attended by Saudi officials including Yasser Al‑Rumian, chairman of Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund.

Cubarsi's performances throughout the tournament were highlighted for his defensive positioning, composure and contribution to Spain keeping clean sheets in six of seven matches. German former international Marcell Jansen praised him as a "key player" and a "great gift" for the Spanish side during post‑match analysis.

The accolade adds to Spain's second World Cup title in 16 years and underscores Cubarsi's emergence as one of football's leading young talents.
