Healthcare and social sectors face regional reforms and funding challenges

Various regional health and social sectors are facing significant structural and financial challenges. In Argentina, the Chamber of Social Security Health Providers (CAPRESS) is calling for tax reform to address financial imbalances and ensure the sustainability of the healthcare system.

In Spain, the Spanish Patient Forum (FEP) is advocating for a new Law of Patient Organizations to legally integrate and protect the voice of patients within the National Health System, including discussions on public funding.

In Costa Rica, the Ministry of Labor and Social Security has warned that social programs, including those for the elderly and people with disabilities, may face resource reductions in 2027 due to legal budget constraints. This has sparked protests from legislators regarding the impact on vulnerable populations.

Meanwhile, in Colombia, the Ombudsman's Office reported that the San Andrés archipelago has the highest rate of healthcare-related complaints in the country, primarily concerning medical appointments, medication delivery, and treatment continuity.
