Spain earmarks €212 million for Galician ports to boost offshore wind

The Spanish government, through the Institute for Energy Diversification and Savings (IDAE), has allocated a provisional €212 million from the EU NextGenEU recovery fund to six state ports to develop offshore wind infrastructure. Almost €100 million of this funding is directed to a joint project for the ports of A Coruña and Ferrol‑San Cibrao in Galicia under the PORT‑EOLMAR programme, with €97.4 million for the joint initiative and €2.5 million for Ferrol alone.

The investment aims to transform these deep‑water ports into hubs capable of assembling the large floating platforms needed for offshore wind turbines, a technology required by Spain’s deep continental shelf. Projects backed by major industry players such as Navantia, WindWaves, Acciona, Esteycó and Saitec will use the upgraded facilities to build, store and launch the massive structures that will support floating wind farms.
