Spain launches €400 million Plan Auto+ electric‑vehicle incentive scheme

The Spanish Council of Ministers approved the new Plan Auto+ programme, allocating €400 million to subsidise the purchase of electric and plug‑in hybrid vehicles. The measure is retroactive to 1 January 2026 and replaces the former MOVES III scheme, shifting administration to the central state (IDAE) to speed up payments.

For private buyers the maximum grant is €4,500 for passenger cars, €5,000 for light vans and €1,100 for motorcycles, while self‑employed persons and firms with up to ten employees can receive up to €6,000 for cars and €7,500 for vans. Eligibility is calculated through an “EEE” point system that rewards electric powertrains, lower price points, European assembly and, where possible, European‑produced batteries.

The programme’s initial budget is already more than half committed, and industry observers warn the funds could be exhausted by September‑October if the current registration pace continues. Environmental group Transport & Environment has cautioned that a significant share of the aid may go to plug‑in hybrids, which it says still rely on fossil fuels.
