Spain emerges top choice for Europeans planning to emigrate

A survey of 2,000 adults in France, Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom found that almost half of respondents expect to live in another country at some point, reflecting a growing willingness to move abroad. The study, commissioned by digital insurance firm Feather, identified cost‑of‑living pressures as the main driver, with 53% of Britons, 48% of French, 43% of Germans and 32% of Italians citing expenses as a reason to consider relocation.

Spain was the most popular destination overall. It was the first‑choice country for 24% of British respondents and 20% of Italians, and ranked second for 16% of French and 12% of German participants. Other preferred destinations included Canada (17% of French respondents), Australia (19% of Britons) and Austria (17% overall). The survey highlighted climate, lifestyle, affordable living costs and perceived quality of life as key attractions.

Only one in ten respondents in each of the four surveyed nations said they would never consider moving abroad, indicating a broad but varied appetite for migration across Europe.
