Spain employment data shows Canary Islands leads in ERE cases

Provisional data from the Ministry of Labour and Social Economy reveals varying trends in employment regulation files (ERE) across Spain for August. The Canary Islands recorded the highest impact in the country, with 1,065 workers affected by EREs, including 768 through collective dismissals.

In contrast, Cantabria saw a 43.5% decrease in affected workers compared to August of the previous year, totaling 13 individuals. This decline was sharper than the national average decrease of 12.2%. In Cantabria, ten workers were involved in working hour reductions and three in contract suspensions, while collective dismissals dropped to zero from 23 the previous year.

Nationally, while the total number of workers affected by EREs fell to 3,479, collective dismissals rose by 30.5% to 1,947. Most procedures (80.74%) were driven by economic, technical, organizational, or production causes (ETOP), whereas those due to force majeure decreased by 51.9%.
