Spain expands compost programs for kitchen waste and pruning residues

Municipal initiatives across Spain are scaling up the treatment of pruning and garden waste. In Morón de la Frontera, the town converts cut‑tree material into compost for municipal nurseries. Cantabria opened a €2 million composting plant at a new clean‑point in Castro Urdiales, part of a €20 million regional upgrade. Smaller projects include a treatment zone in Durango, a door‑to‑door collection service in Molins de Rei, and a €30 000 recycling setup in Durango. Despite progress, improper disposal still causes problems, such as a fire in Adamuz, Córdoba, sparked by burning pruning residues and plastic.
