Spain Expands Emergency Services with New Firefighter Posts in Murcia and Radio Base at Canet Lighthouse

The regional government of Murcia approved a 41 million‑euro investment, the largest emergency budget in recent years, to create 181 new firefighter positions between 2024 and 2028 and to acquire eight additional fire trucks, aiming to improve response times across urban and rural areas.

In Catalonia, the Generalitat announced a plan to install a Tetra‑based mobile digital communications base station at the Canet d'en Berenguer lighthouse. The project, budgeted at about €182,441, will add a dedicated radio hub for police, fire, medical services and civil protection, addressing current coverage gaps and providing more stable communications for emergency responders.

Both initiatives seek to modernise equipment and strengthen the capacity of public‑safety agencies to respond more quickly and effectively to emergencies.
