Spain expands ITV requirements for tractors and camper vans

In Spain, the technical vehicle inspection (ITV) rules for agricultural machines and tractors have specific age‑based schedules. Tractors with a top speed over 40 km/h are exempt for the first four years, inspected every two years between four and sixteen years, and annually thereafter. Slower tractors, harvesters, trailers and related equipment undergo their first check at eight years, then biennially until sixteen, and annually after that. Certain low‑speed machines such as motocultores are exempt. Inspections cover brakes, lighting, tyres, registration plates, cabin safety structures and overall vehicle condition, with mobile ITV stations serving rural areas.

The Dirección General de Tráfico (DGT) has also introduced a new instruction requiring semi‑annual ITV for category N camper‑vans older than ten years. More than 100,000 such vehicles must be inspected twice a year, with a €200 fine for non‑compliance. The rule differentiates these vans from category M autocaravanas, which keep a biennial or annual schedule. Inspection costs average €40 per visit, effectively doubling annual expenses for the affected camper‑van owners.
