Spain expands low‑cost rail service and suspends Metro line 9 for summer works

Renfe will add two weekly Avlo low‑cost trains on the Madrid‑Málaga corridor from 4 August to 9 September, offering tickets starting at €9 subject to availability. The move, aimed at the high summer‑season demand, intensifies price competition with Ouigo and Iryo.

Madrid’s Metro line 9B (Rivas Vaciamadrid – Arganda del Rey) will be closed from 25 July to 13 August for three weeks of track renewal and safety upgrades. A free replacement bus service (SE9) will operate, but travel times are expected to double, affecting roughly 18 000 daily riders.
