Spain expands regenerative agriculture and biodiversity projects
Efforts to implement regenerative agriculture and protect biodiversity are expanding across Spain. The LIFE Olivares Vivos project, funded by the European Union, has spent a decade working to reconcile olive groves with local ecosystems. By fostering dialogue between scientists and farmers, the initiative introduces practices such as preserving weeds, installing nesting boxes, and creating water sources to attract pollinators and wildlife.
In a separate but related development, PepsiCo is expanding its regenerative agriculture footprint by adding more than 4,000 hectares of crops in Álava and Badajoz. Working with the Earthworm Foundation, the company is applying these techniques to oilseeds, potatoes, and corn. The program aims to improve soil health, reduce carbon footprints, and increase climate resilience through continuous training for local farmers.
