Spain faces challenges as one in four EV charging points remain non-operational

Spain's public electric vehicle charging infrastructure is facing significant operational challenges. According to the Electromobility Barometer by ANFAC, while the network grew by 2.9% in the second quarter with 1,605 new points, a large portion of the installed infrastructure remains unusable.

As of the end of June, there were 56,682 operational public charging points, but 17,821 installed points are not yet functional. This means approximately 23.9% of the total installed infrastructure is out of service. If all installed points were operational, the network would reach 74,503 chargers.

Issues such as equipment breakdowns, poor maintenance, and lack of connection to the electrical grid prevent these points from being utilized. José López-Tafall, director general of ANFAC, noted that infrastructure remains the primary challenge for the transition to electric mobility, emphasizing the need to accelerate the network's growth and streamline bureaucratic processes to reduce activation times.
