Spain faces critical transport infrastructure delays

Spain faces significant challenges regarding transport infrastructure, with long-standing delays affecting both highways and railways in various regions.

In Castile and León, the A-62 highway between Tordesillas and Valladolid remains a critical bottleneck. The lack of a third lane has led to frequent traffic congestion and serious accidents, including a recent collision involving four trucks and three cars that resulted in one death and eight injuries. Despite years of discussions by successive ministries, the project has failed to move from the planning stage to construction.

In Andalusia, transport infrastructure has become a central political issue. The Puente del Centenario in Seville has faced years of delays and maintenance issues. Meanwhile, the regional government is demanding a complete review of the railway network from the central government. Key pending projects include improving connections between San Pablo Airport and Santa Justa Station, as well as addressing broader issues with rail frequency and network capacity.
