Spain faces December deadline for Eurovision 2027 participation
The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) has granted RTVE until December to confirm whether Spain will participate in the 2027 Eurovision Song Contest. This follows a previous extension that expired in mid-October. Spain and Slovenia are currently the only two countries among the confirmed participants that have yet to finalize their status.
José Pablo López, the president of RTVE’s board of directors, previously indicated in a Senate parliamentary control commission that he would propose a boycott for a second consecutive year. This stance is due to the continued participation of Israel in the contest, a matter López described as deeply painful given the suffering of the Palestinian people.
The decision rests with the RTVE board of directors, which is scheduled to meet on November 17. Historical voting patterns suggest a likely split along political lines, as seen in previous sessions where a majority of board members from various political parties voted against participation. The timing of the decision coincides with the upcoming November 29 elections, which could influence the country's future stance on the contest.
