Spain food consumption and grocery price trends

New data from the 2025 Food Consumption Report in Spain reveals that Extremadura has the lowest per capita spending on food and beverages for home consumption, averaging 1,626.3 euros annually. This is 248.45 euros below the national average of 1,874.75 euros. Despite lower spending, the volume of consumption in Extremadura (582 kg/liters) remains slightly above the Spanish average of 577.32 kg/liters.

In a separate consumer comparison, a study of Lidl supermarket prices found that a specific basket of goods was 6.92 euros cheaper in the United Kingdom than in Spain. The most significant price discrepancy was found in olive oil, which cost 3.62 euros more per unit in Spain (8.90 euros) compared to the UK (5.28 euros). While the total basket was more affordable in the UK, certain items like oat milk and dark chocolate were more expensive there than in Spain.
