Spain industrial prices rise 13.2% amid energy and food inflation

Spain's industrial producer prices (IPRI) rose by 13.2% annually in August 2026, a significant increase of 3.8 percentage points compared to July. This surge was primarily driven by the energy sector, which saw a 33.3% annual increase due to higher costs in electricity production, distribution, and oil refining.

Regional data shows the highest industrial price increases occurred in Asturias and the Canary Islands, both at 27.3%. In the Canary Islands, energy prices specifically rose by 39.3% annually.

On the consumer side, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) reached an annual variation of 4.3% in August. Fresh food prices saw a notable acceleration, with the annual increase rising to 4.5%, doubling the 2.3% increase recorded in July. Specific food items experienced sharp rises, including berries (35.7%), fresh citrus (17.1%), and eggs (12.5%). Factors contributing to these increases include rising fuel and fertilizer costs, tax hikes, and increased labor costs in the primary sector.
