Spain food prices rise as berry and citrus costs surge

According to the latest Consumer Price Index (CPI) data from the National Statistics Institute (INE), food prices in Spain have shown significant volatility over the past year. Fresh berries, including strawberries and blueberries, saw the highest increase at 17.2%, while fresh citrus fruits rose by 15.5%.

Other notable price hikes include eggs, which are 13.4% more expensive, and fresh fish, which increased by 7.7%. Edible offal and seafood preparations also experienced upward trends.

Conversely, several food categories saw price decreases. Other fresh fruits such as melons, watermelons, and grapes dropped by 15.4%, and tropical fruits fell by 14.8%. Additionally, prices for coffee, cereals, sugar, and vegetable beverages also declined during this period.
