Spain forest fires burn 296,502 hectares this year

Forest fires in Spain have burned 296,502 hectares so far this year, a figure approximately 3.5 times higher than the annual average since 2006, according to data from the European Forest Fire Information System (EFFIS).

Recent activity includes the stabilization of a fire in the Pedraza area of Huelva, which required the mobilization of 15 aircraft and over 130 personnel. In Galicia, a fire in Quiroga was controlled after affecting 460 hectares. Additionally, a fire in Silleda, Pontevedra, impacted a zone containing petroglyphs in Castro Montaz.

While the current total is significantly higher than the historical average of 85,549 hectares, the total area burned this year is approximately 22.5% less than the same period last year, following an exceptionally severe summer in 2025.
