Spain forest fires reach 296,502 hectares burned this year

Forest fires in Spain have burned 296,502 hectares so far this year, according to data from the European Forest Fire Information System (EFFIS). This figure is approximately 3.5 times higher than the annual average since 2006, which stands at 85,549 hectares.

While the current total is significantly above the long-term average, it represents a 22.5% decrease in burned surface area compared to the same period last year, when 382,663 hectares were affected following an exceptionally severe summer.

In Andalusia, the Plan Infoca forest fire extinction service reported that the fire in the Ermita del Rosario area of Benahavís, Málaga, has been fully extinguished. The fire, which began on September 13, was stabilized and controlled earlier in the week before being put out by forest firefighters, environmental agents, and aerial support.
