Spain forward Mikel Oyarzabal stars in World Cup and draws Barcelona interest

Spain entered Group H of the 2026 FIFA World Cup unbeaten in 33 matches, leading the group with four points ahead of Uruguay and Cape Verde. Defender Aymeric Laporte said the team’s focus must remain on its own performance and warned Uruguay will come “all‑out” in the upcoming decisive clash.

Forward Mikel Oyarzabal, who scored two goals and assisted Lamine Yamal in a 4‑0 win over Saudi Arabia, described his condition as “a bit sore but fine” and stressed calm and collective effort ahead of the Uruguay game. He downplayed speculation about his future, noting a €75 million release clause and rumours linking him with FC Barcelona, but said his priority is the World Cup. Oyarzabal added that he is not worried about contract talks with Real Sociedad, calling the club his “home”.

Spain must win—or at least avoid defeat—against Uruguay to finish top of the group and avoid a possible Round‑of‑16 meeting with Argentina.
