Spain Government to Approve Social Benefit Reforms and Pension Updates
The Spanish government is set to approve a royal decree-law on October 20 aimed at improving various social benefits. The reforms, managed by the Ministry of Social Security, include adjustments to temporary disability benefits for victims of gender violence and women with menopause-related pathologies. For these groups, benefits will rise from 60% to 75% of the regulatory base after the 20th day of leave. Additionally, the reform modifies the CUME benefit for parents caring for children with serious illnesses, allowing both parents to receive it simultaneously and extending eligibility beyond age 26 for those with specific disabilities.
Separately, the government is preparing for the annual pension update in December, which is legally guaranteed to follow inflation rates. While the exact percentage will not be confirmed until the National Statistics Institute (INE) releases preliminary inflation data on November 27, the increase is expected to proceed regardless of the political landscape following the November 29 general elections. Economic analysts suggest that international conflicts could influence inflation rates, impacting the final revaluation figures.
