Spain greenhouse vegetable exports reach record €4,695 million

Spanish greenhouse vegetable exports reached a record value of €4,695 million between September 2025 and May 2026, according to the 2026 Sector Report by AgroBank and Agrifood Comunicación. This record occurred despite a decline in total fruit and vegetable production, which fell to 11.7 million tons in 2025, the lowest volume since 2010.

Spain remains the leading producer in the European Union, accounting for 29.3% of total EU output. The greenhouse vegetable sector achieved a record trade surplus of €4,238 million. Key crops including tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, courgettes, and aubergines covered over 61,000 hectares, with Andalusia representing 76% of that area. Approximately 85% of these exports are destined for other EU nations.

Other notable agricultural trends include: - Melon and watermelon exports reached a record €959 million in 2025. - Open-field vegetable exports rose 36% compared to the 2019/20 season. - The citrus harvest dropped to 5.68 million tons, its lowest level in a decade, though lemon prices rose 78.9% above the five-year average. - Almond and pistachio harvests saw increases of 27.6% and 42%, respectively.
