Spain has only seven startup unicorns compared to US and China
Spain currently has only seven startup unicorns, companies valued at over $1 billion that have not yet gone public. These companies include Cabify, Factorial, Job & Talent, Multiverse Computing, Perk, Recover, and Xoople.
A study by BestBrokers, utilizing data from Crunchbase, TechCrunch, and PitchBook, highlights a significant gap between Spain and other major global economies. The United States leads with 938 unicorns, followed by China with 310 and India with approximately 90. In Europe, the United Kingdom has 80 and Germany has 47.
Despite having a larger economy than several European nations, Spain trails behind countries like the Netherlands, Switzerland, Sweden, and Ireland in the number of unicorn startups. Spain ranks ahead of nations such as Finland, Belgium, Norway, Italy, and Portugal.
