Spain health experts recommend safe beach walking to protect knees and feet
Personal trainer Álvaro Puche explains that walking on wet, level sand reduces impact on the knees, but unstable surfaces can over‑work ligaments and cause inflammation. He advises using slightly more stable footwear rather than walking completely barefoot, and choosing flat, moist beach areas.
Podiatrist Carlos Martínez of Policlínica Gipuzkoa warns that prolonged barefoot walking or extended use of flip‑flops in summer can lead to blisters, plantar fasciitis, tendinitis and other foot problems. He recommends moderate walks, shoes that securely hold the foot and heel, and limiting open sandals to short periods. Both experts stress moderation and proper footwear to enjoy beach walks without knee or foot injuries.
