Spain hit by retail and logistics strikes disrupting supermarkets

Labour unions have launched two separate strike actions in Spain. In the province of Seville, a logistics strike involving around 6,000 workers from about 200 companies has left Carrefour stores in Seville and Cádiz with partially empty shelves and delayed deliveries, affecting staples such as eggs, bread, fresh meat and even toilet paper. The dispute, centered on collective‑bargaining demands, also hampers Amazon shipments and threatens the supply of essential goods to the public‑health system.

Meanwhile, in the province of A Coruña, a strike of food‑retail workers organized by CCOO, CIG, UGT and USO began on 22 June and will run until 24 June, overlapping with the San Juan holiday. Unions protest what they describe as untenable labour and salary conditions, alleging that employers have refused to negotiate and have asked staff to work overtime during the strike. Several supermarkets have closed or reduced staffing, and demonstrations are planned in A Coruña, Santiago, Ferrol and Ribeira.

Both actions are part of broader labour unrest in Spain, disrupting the availability of basic consumer goods and prompting protests in multiple cities.
