Spain home security report: Villas face double the intrusion risk of apartments
A report from the Verisure Observatory of Security in Spanish Homes indicates that detached houses and villas face more than double the risk of intrusion compared to apartments and flats in Spain. The study highlights that the configuration of a property significantly influences its vulnerability to unauthorized entry.
In apartments, the main entrance is the primary concern, with 48.8% of residents identifying it as the most exposed point. Data shows that eight out of ten intrusions in these buildings occur through the front door. Within apartment buildings, ground floor units are the most exposed due to direct street access, while penthouses show slightly higher vulnerability than middle floors due to terrace and roof access.
For single-family homes, the risk is more distributed across multiple access points. In semi-detached and terraced houses, vulnerability is shared between the front door (32.2%), the patio (31.2%), and the garden (29.6%). In detached villas, the garden is considered the most vulnerable entry point at 38.6%, followed by the front door (24.6%) and accessible windows (22.8%).
