Spain honors schools and companies for environmental sustainability initiatives

Sixteen schools in Algeciras received the Green Flag award from the Andalusian government, recognizing their integration of environmental education and sustainable practices into curricula and campus life. The ceremony was led by María del Carmen Castillo, head of the regional Education and Professional Training department, who highlighted the role of schools in fostering ecological responsibility.

In Don Benito, the Ecoanime Foundation presented its second Sustainable Initiative Awards, with 18 businesses participating. The top prize went to Hormiga Verde, a company that creates new products from electronic waste, exemplifying circular‑economy practices. The event, sponsored by Caja Rural de Extremadura and supported by AENOR, underscored the growing permanence of sustainability in Spain’s industrial sector.
