Spain hosts lectures on Civil War repression and historical memory

Academic and cultural institutions in Spain are hosting events to analyze the historical impact of the Spanish Civil War.

In Talavera de la Reina, the UNED will host a hybrid event on October 15, 2026. The program, titled ‘1936-2026. A noventa años de la Guerra Civil en Talavera de la Reina’, includes a lecture by Juan Atenza Fernández on repression within the city and a session by Isabelo Herreros Martín-Maestro focusing on provincial repression and the existence of common graves.

Additionally, the Fundación Cajasol recently concluded a lecture cycle in Seville dedicated to the conflict. The event featured various historians and public figures, aiming to address the historiography and social sensitivity surrounding the 90-year anniversary of the war.
