Spain hosts river descent in Extremadura and sailing regatta in Galicia this week
The town of Coria in Extremadura is preparing for the 17th edition of the Descenso del río Alagón on Sunday, 26 July. The event offers an 18.8‑kilometre long course from the Puente de la Macarrona to the Puente de Hierro and a 7.5‑kilometre short course. A free programme of complementary activities – zodiac rides, paddle‑surf, rappelling, zip‑lines and an inflatable castle – will run along the river. The municipality highlighted a skin‑cancer prevention stand run by the local Oncology Association, and Mayor Almudena Domingo encouraged residents and visitors to attend.
From Thursday 23 to Sunday 26 July, the bay of A Coruña will host the LIII Regata Rías Altas, organised by the Real Club Náutico de A Coruña. The sailing competition for cruising vessels will start in the city’s waters and then move toward Viveiro, Cariño and Cedeira. Mayor Inés Rey and Sports Councillor Manuel Vázquez attended the launch, emphasizing the regatta’s role in promoting healthy habits, supporting the club’s new leadership, and fostering friendship among Galician municipalities. The event also marks the lead‑up to the club’s centenary celebrations planned for 2027.
