Spain ice cream consumption and spending rise

Ice cream consumption and spending in Spanish households rose significantly over the last year, according to data from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA). Between June 2025 and May 2026, Spaniards consumed 151.97 million liters of ice cream, representing an 11.2% increase in per capita consumption.

The total market value reached 762.68 million euros, a 16.3% increase compared to the previous year. The average price per liter rose by 4.1% to 5.02 euros. On average, each resident spent 16.20 euros on ice cream purchases.

Consumption shows strong seasonality, with 81.6% of the total volume consumed between April and September. July recorded the highest annual consumption at 20%, followed by June (17.8%) and August (17.1%). In contrast, monthly consumption during winter months dropped to between 0.06 and 0.09 liters per person.

Supermarkets remain the dominant retail channel, accounting for 87.6% of the total volume purchased by Spanish households. Hypermarkets represent 8.2% of the market.
