Uruguay maintains fuel prices for September despite international volatility
The Uruguayan Executive Branch has decided to maintain current fuel prices for September, marking the second consecutive month of stability. This decision comes despite calculations from the Regulatory Unit of Energy and Water (URSEA) indicating that international import parity would have triggered significant increases.
Specifically, URSEA estimated that if international price fluctuations were fully passed on to the domestic market, Super 95 gasoline would have risen to approximately $89.54 per liter, and 50S diesel would have seen a sharp 25% increase to $73.18 per liter. Instead, the government will keep Super 95 gasoline at a maximum of $88.67 per liter, 50S diesel at $58.68 per liter, and supergás at $93.56 per kilogram.
The Ministry of Industry, Energy and Mining, along with the Ministry of Economy and Finance, stated that this measure is part of a strategy implemented since April to cushion the domestic market from international oil price volatility, which has been exacerbated by conflicts in the Middle East. The administration aims to provide stability to consumers and avoid immediate impacts on transport, production, and the broader economy.
